The eligibility criteria for Common Entrance Test will be as per the rules and regulations of Govt. of India, Govt. of Maharashtra and as per the directions of Hon. Supreme Court time to time.

Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery

Introduction of the Department

Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery is the specialty of dentistry that deals with the ailments of face and mouth. It encompasses the diagnosis and treatment of various acquired, congenital and developmental diseases, deformities and injuries involving functional and cosmetic aspects of face and mouth.

The scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery ranges from the extraction of teeth including third molar surgeries to the treatment of infections, fracture of facial bones, dental implants and cancer of mouth etc.

More than 800 extractions and 40-50 minor oral surgeries are successfully performed per month in our well equipped department which follows standards of aseptic protocol.

We take pride and pleasure to be associated with the General Medical Hospital. At this facility we have a state-of-art Operation Theatre of its own kind. We need not mention that our staff is highly qualified with good teaching skills. Students are taught to develop abilities to make clinical judgments’ using evidence-based diagnosis and treatment planning of various Oral and Maxillofacial surgical problems. Emphasis is placed on development of skills and expertise in extractions and minor oral surgical procedures including trans-alveolar extractions.

The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery is one of the most versatile and dynamic departments of the SD Dental College with a very competent team of doctors headed by Dr. Arun Panda- a dynamic Oral and Facial Cosmetic Surgeon.

Apart from this the department has catered to a vast numbers of patients in recent years.

  3. To train the under graduate students to be able to undertake with utmost efficiency & competence the teaching assignments or surgical practice that they undertake in their the future career
  4. Prompt, compassionate, evidenced based treatment protocols to be implemented, all the while taking utmost precaution not to burden the patients finances

The academic backup is given by a separate department library, which has the latest editions of all the concerned books. We have 20 titles of books in which many international and national books are available for reference and cross reference. Undergraduates are benefited from our department library. Department library is attached with well furnished reading room and a computer with broad band connection for data collection from internet sources.

DEPARTMENT OF PERIODONTOLOGY

The Department of Periodontology at SD Dental college was established in 2009.

It has separate undergraduate and postgraduate sections equipped with modern dental chairs fitted with ultrasonic scalers as per Dental Council of India guidelines.

Advanced surgical equipment like laser, microsurgical unit, iontophorosis unit, electrocautery, implant kit and centrifuge to procure PRF are the additional facilities available in the department.

It also deals with the preventive and corrective measures in the management of gingival and periodontal diseases.

The entire faculty is involved in teaching undergraduate and post graduate students.

The undergraduate students are posted in the department for 30 days. During this time they are trained to provide comprehensive treatment to the patients,  including those requiring non-surgical as well as surgical periodontal therapy

KEY FEATURES

Undergraduate students are trained with skills to render non-surgical and preventive periodontal procedures and are introduced to surgical periodontal procedures by observing and assisting as procedures are being performed.

Postgraduate students are given opportunity to learn and master a variety of surgical clinical procedures.

Hands on training in various implant systems and clinical exposure to use of lasers is being imparted as part of the curriculum.

Rural community camps provide students with an opportunity to be a part of public health programs.

PG Program

Vision : To  initiate  and promote a training program in Periodontology that trains students to independently practice in the subject of Periodontology as an exclusive specialty practice in  private clinics, corporate hospitals, educational institutions.

 Mission:

Educate by having a clear vision of principles and philosophy of screening, diagnosing and managing oral diseases/oral manifestations of systemic diseases

Describe various preventive periodontal measures

Recognize conditions that may be outside the area of his Speciality /competence and refer them to an appropriate Specialist.

Take a proper clinical history thorough examination 01 intra orally, extra orally, medical history evaluation advice essential diagnosis procedure & interpret them to come to a reasonable diagnosis.

Effective motivation & education regarding periodontal disease maintenance after the treatment.

Perform both non-surgical & education regarding periodontal disease.

 Perform both non-surgical & surgical procedure independently.

UG PROGRAM

Vision : To  initiate  and promote a training program in Periodontology for under- graduate students that  aims to acquire the skills for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of periodontal diseases as we as comprehensive dental treatment.

Mission

The students shall acquire the skill to perform dental scaling, diagnostic tests of periodontal diseases, to use the instruments for periodontal therapy & maintenance of the same.  

The students shall develop attitude to impart the preventive measure, the prevention of periodontal disease.  

The students shall also develop an attitude to perform the treatment with full aseptic precautions.

Students should be able to record a detailed periodontal case history, determine diagnosis, prognosis & plan treatment.
