DEPARTMENT OF PEDODONTICS AND PREVENTIVE DENTISTRY

SARASWATI DHANWANTARI DENTAL COLLEGE & HOSPITAL & POST GRADUATE RESEARCH INSTITUTE

Introduction of the Department

Pediatric and preventive dentistry is the branch which includes treatment of children and young adolescents. It is considered as a most challenging branch because it involves understanding and comprehensive treatment of children. It is a prime branch amongst all the specialities of dentistry as it encompasses nearly all the branches of dentistry as well as of allied health sciences. This specialty deals with managing the behavior of child, understanding his/her needs, education and motivation of children and parents and providing the required treatment with patience and perseverance in an effective and efficient way.

The most prevalent oral disease worldwide is Dental Caries. Almost 70% population is affected by this disease in a developing country like India due to lack of awareness, limited resources and infrastructure. Our main aim is to develop awareness about the possible reasons for its occurrence and provide preventive and comprehensive care to the children in order to instill positive attitude towards dental treatment and thereby helps the child to grow into better human being. With the advancement in the field of Pediatric Dentistry, it is easy now to prevent and treat the oral diseases in children. Our department’s future thrust is to work on Regeneration and revascularization procedures, stem cell therapies and advance preventive measures to provide best treatment to children in an efficient way in order to achieve WHO theme of “ Health for all by 2020”.
